My Self Care Toolkit

Most people believe self care is getting pampered or buying yourself something nice to feel good. I personally believe self care is truly nurturing your inner-self. The self that when some asks "Are you ok?", you answer from the most truthful place.

Below are 4 of my most important "items" I keep in my toolkit.

1. Journal:

Since I've been a young girl, I've always communicated best through writing. Journaling has allowed me to leave my hopes, fears, dreams, tears, frustrations, etc on paper to either manifest or to be released. Bad days are fought by my pen. Excitement for my life is captured by my pen. And my conversations with God are memorialized by my pen.

2. Sage Stick:

D.C has introduced me to guided meditation and more holistic approaches to releasing energy. Lighting my sage stick allows the smoke to move bad energy from your space. Offering a pure cleansed atmosphere that nurtures peace and enlightenment.

3. Disconnecting/Quiet Time:

Protect your peace at ALL cost. Placing my phone on "do not disturb" and allowing myself to be left with my own thoughts is golden. Not answering the phone, allows me to only deal with MY life's problems and gives me much needed time to regroup. Taking care of yourself and protecting your peace go hand and hand. Being a constant source of someone else's need to "unload" can be draining. Don't feel guilt for being unavailable or needing time to yourself.

4. A Good Book:

Getting lost in a good book has ALWAYS been in my self care toolkit. Even as a young child when I didn't even know what self care was. As an adult, reading for leisure is a pleasure that I enjoy. It's super therapeutic and offers an escape from our world's obsession with constantly staying digitally connect.

Sidenote: I'm currently reading "Wholeness" by Pastor Touré Roberts. Each page is changing my life. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
